Has Recent Wet Weather
Resulted in Soil Nitrogen Loss?
In wet field areas it is common to find off-color crops, but that
does not necessarily equate to N shortage.
Soybean Aphids –
Where are They Now?
We suspect that given the cold winter
temperatures there was minimal overwintering in the NW part of
Minnesota, but NE Iowa and the SE Minnesota are the large source
sites for aphids that immigrate into our fields.
Using Hairy Vetch
in the Cropping System
Averaged over five environments with four replicates each, hairy
vetch, when seeded at the four-leaf stage of sunflower, produced
1423 lb. of dry matter without reducing the sunflower yield.
Timing
of Postemergence
Corn
and Soybean Weed Control
Effectiveness and crop injury problems
can be attributed to herbicide application to weeds and crops that
are too large.
Reducing
Drift Potential
of Postemergence
Herbicides
Two
important factors preventing timely postemergence application are
wet fields and windy conditions.
Wheat Disease Update
As
temperatures warm and plant leaves remain wet for extended periods,
it’s increasingly likely that susceptible plants will have problems
from early season foliar diseases.
