Soybeans
Struggle in the Valley Are your soybeans short? Are they still yellow? Are they
behind? If so, you are not alone. Conditions have been
much less than perfect for soybean production in the Red
River Valley.
What
Lambsquarter Species Is It? The ‘Atlas of the Vascular Plants of Minnesota’ lists
seven lambsquarter species (goosefoot family) that may be
found in NW Minnesota.
Foliar Nitrogen for
Protein Increase Although nitrogen should be applied before or at
planting, foliar applications of liquid nitrogen have been
used to try and enhance protein content
of the grain. UAN solutions are sometimes used, but liquid
fertilizers may cause serious leaf burning.
Temperatures for Hay
Bales in Storage The Spring of 2004 has been a tough year for hay made into
bales. If you have made dry hay bales and put them in
storage, you may want to check temperatures. Hay put up
too wet will heat and cause both quality and possible fire
problems.
